If you have a question that isn't listed below, please get in touch and I'll be more than happy to help.
HOW OFTEN DO HORSES REQUIRE BODYWORK?
This really depends on the horse, but on average approximately every 8-12 weeks for maintenance treatments.
WHAT ARE THE CONTRAINDICATIONS TO BODYWORK?
Please see the 'Information for Clients' tab on this website where IÂ provide detail regarding situations where I would not be able to provide treatment to a horse.
DO I NEED TO BE THERE FOR THE APPOINTMENT?
Yes please! This is important and allows me to have a full consultation with you prior to treatment, and provide aftercare advice post session. It also enables me to conduct static and dynamic assessments appropriately.
MY YOUNGSTER HAS NEVER HAD BODYWORK BEFORE, CAN YOU TREAT THEM?
Yes! Providing there are no contraindications I can treat horses as young as 7 days old!
DO I NEED TO ASK PERMISSION FROM MY VET BEFORE YOU CAN TREAT?
Not always. For further information on this please go to my 'Information for Clients' tab on this website.
ARE YOU ABLE TO DIAGNOSE PROBLEMS WITH MY HORSE AND ADVISE ME ON TREATMENT OPTIONS?
If I think that there is something wrong during any of our consultations or the static/dynamic observations, I will flag this to you immediately and can advise on next steps (e.g. refer to vet), but I do not diagnose any issues/illness.
DOES MY HORSE NEED TO BE CLEAN AND DRY FOR THEIR TREATMENT?
Yes - this is crucial! Unfortunately I can't treat wet or dirty horses as anything on the coat can impact my ability to feel for any tension/stress points. Please ensure horses are in, clean and completely dry in time for their appointments.
DO YOU TREAT STALLIONS?
Yes! I'm more than happy to treat any sex, breed, age, height of horse.
MY HORSE IS RETIRED, DO THEY STILL NEED TREATING?
Of course! And I'd love to see them! For information on the benefits of massage for every horse, take a look at the Home page.
DO I NEED TO DO ANYTHING FOLLOWING MY HORSES APPOINTMENT?
Following their treatment, you may find that horses drink more and urinate more. This is perfectly normal - just make sure they have access to a good amount of fresh clean water. If horses aren’t being turned out following their appointment, it’s beneficial for them to stretch and encourage circulation by walking. If you have access to a walker or can hand walk them after their session, this will benefit them hugely and really make the most of their treatment.
CAN I RIDE AFTER MY HORSE HAS BEEN TREATED?
This very much depends on what I’ve done during the session, so I will advise individual clients after each treatment accordingly. However, I usually advise that horses aren't ridden on the same day after a massage. Some horses may benefit from a lighter work-day the next day, or some may be able to return to their normal workload the following day.
DO YOU TREAT FOALS?
YES! Foals can receive bodywork sessions from 7 days old onwards. The younger they get used to bodywork the better! Whilst they're growing so quickly it's really useful to have them regularly checked over. It also doubles up as a really good groundwork session, getting them used to having their legs/ears/belly etc. touched.
